Ecclefechan Butter Tarts. The vinegar in the recipe serves to cut back the sweetness a bit. Typically, the recipe contains no spices, though a 2004 American take on the recipe which appeared in Bon Appétit magazine  introduced cinnamon (and swapped out the vinegar for lemon juice.)
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Roll out the pastry until it’s large enough to line your tart pan(s). Combine the filling ingredients and pour into the tart. Bake the tart for 25 to 30 minutes. This may also be served with double, clotted or whipped cream. Store refrigerated for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
